Greetings to all.
My induction into Carnatic Music from scratch and initial training was under Dr Karaikudi S Subramanian. I have the privilege of being his student even before my graduation. It was this great guru, who laid a very strong foundation in me and gave me opportunities to learn the intricacies of Carnatic music in the style of performance and singing during my 4 years at the Gurukulam.
I am proud to be the first vocal student ever under Dr.KSS’s tutelage, and fortunate to be associated with Brhadhvani for over 25 years since its inception.
I am fortunate to acquire specialized skillset in Dr. KSS’s unique pedagogical system COMET that focuses on experiencing time-tone-movement , creativity and patterning, coordination of mind and body, critical listening and music styles, reading and writing. With this expertise, I bring in on how to incorporate vocal technique in to one’s own style of singing, and vocal awareness, to what has been an art form that has been primarily taught “by feel”. I believe inculcating fundamental training and basics in Music effectively in students that can be adapted and brought into the realm of Carnatic as well as world music.
I have been sharing my experience with students and thanks to modern technology and internet, all across the world. I m happy to work with a range of singers, from professionals, recreational singers to young children.I hope to share blog posts on all things music, fundamentals of basic training, voice training, and beyond, from a concert to festival line-ups. I will be discussing artists, their music, passion, my association that I have found and love at that moment in time.
Look forward to both positive and constructive comments on my posts, and even give me ideas, comment on or just general discussion topics. So please stick with me through the first few months where things might be a little shaky. I’m new at this!
